Early Childhood Education & Development
Reflective
of the growing importance attributed to early childhood education and
development (ECD) in laying the health and cognitive development
foundations required for children to grow and learn, the Center for
Education Innovations (CEI) has identified close to 60 ECD programs
spanning multiple regions and countries. While expanding the access to
and quality of early childhood education is an Education for All (EFA)
goal, significant progress remains to be made to make quality early
childhood care and education accessible to all, including the poorest
and most vulnerable.
Database At-A-Glance
The
Database At-a-Glance is an original analysis of emerging trends and
themes in ECED programs that have surfaced from programs profiled in our
database.
The evidence base on the benefits of ECD is robust and growing. Less well known are practical examples of programs whose features have promise, both for ECD as a whole and also especially for ECD for disadvantaged children. This database at a glance begins to fill this gap and highlights both emerging themes and characteristics common across many of the ECD programs in the CEI database. It also points to unique and distinct models of ECD programs that are promising as innovative solutions to improve both access and quality of ECD for the poor and marginalized. This database at a glance (DAG) highlights the common programming themes as well as emerging models of practice in ECD programs profiled in the CEI Database.
