CRS's goal is to connect teachers, principals and districts with the rich variety of science resources that exist in the Bay Area and on the web. Our "For Educators" section of our website provides access to those resources

Teacher Membership Services

Nearly 1,400 teachers in the East Bay are part of the growing Community Resources for Science teacher member network.  In some districts and schools, CRS membership is supported through grants and is available at no cost to teachers; in other districts individual teachers, PTAs, or schools pay a modest membership fee to become CRS members.

• Find out how to bring BASIS (Bay Area Scientists in School) volunteer presentations to your classroom
• We send our members timely, concise updates about exhibits, opportunities, events, and more -- right to their email in-boxes in our monthly  Science e-NewsBlasts
• Members also receive our comprehensive quarterly Science Resource Guides in the mail and online so they won't miss out on deadlines, grants, summer institutes, and other resources to support their science teaching and professional development.
• Explore local science centers by attending CRS Field Trips for Teachers.
• Teachers can earn recognition for excellence through the Annual CRS Science Super Star Challenge!

Science Standards Overview

Explore the new California Science Standards (Next Generation Science Standards), discover resources to further develop your professional teaching skills, and learn how to connect science across the curriculum to math and language arts.

• The Science Standards Overview page provides links to resources on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) which are now officially the California State Science Standards.
• We explore Science & Engineering Practices with links to videos, background information, and lesson plans for each of the NGSS practices
• Explore the content of the Next Generation Science Standards.
• The Crosscutting Concepts of the NGSS are ideas that link the different content areas of science.
• Discover ways to link NGSS to the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and Math.
• While schools in California are transitioning to NGSS it is still sometimes necessary to have access to resources for the former California Science Standards

Science Teaching Tools

Use CRS Science Teaching Tools to design and implement effective hands-on, minds-on science and engineering lessons.

• Our Grade Level Programs & Websites page has links to reports we generate out of our extensive science education database. We have organized them by grade level and content area to help you more easily plan your science lessons.
• Search our database to find current information on science field trips, programs, materials, websites, and more by searching our database.
• The CRS Best Practices & Planning Tools page is a collection of documents and worksheets that we have used in our professional development workshops.
• Our list of Science "Treasure Trove" Websites lets you explore the best of the web all from one place.  These are the websites that we keep going back to again and again.
• Connecting learning across the curriculum is a powerful way to reinforce skills while exploring new content material. Bring literature and science together by checking out these Science Literature Connections.
• Find classroom-tested science activities developed by our own BASIS volunteers.

Bay Area Scientists in Schools (BASIS)

CRS recruits and trains local scientists and engineers to bring hands-on science lessons into East Bay classrooms through our BASIS program.  This is a benefit to our CRS member teachers.

Principal Support and District Support

CRS works with school site leadership and district leaders to provide teacher member services and customized professional development workshops to increase science teaching and learning in partner schools.

Science at Home

Science is all about learning about the world around us.  Science learning doesn't stop when students leave school. Our Science at Home page provides resources to families, teachers and anyone else interested in science to explore the museums around us, support science learning at home and in the classroom.
