Christina Rothenbeck received her PhD in English literature and creative writing from the University of Southern Mississippi. Christina, a daughter of Charles and Jeanette Rothenbeck, of Washington, N.J., is an English instructor at Louisiana State University.

Two local Susquehanna University students presented research at the Seventh Annual Landmark Conference Summer Research Symposium held at Goucher College this summer: Andrew Van Woert, of Fogelsville, presented research conducted with Ahmed Lachhab concerning the assessment of water quality in Snyder County PA using the water quality index and diatom metrics. Van Woert is a graduate of Parkland High School and son of James and Lory Van Woert.
Michelle Barakat, of Bethlehem, presented research conducted with Lachhab, concerning the water quality index analysis of headwaters leading into Penns Creek. Barakat, a graduate of Liberty High School, is a daughter of Munzer and Josefina Barakat.

Lauren Spelling of Hackettstown, is the orchestra pit director in the upcoming production of the musical comedy "Company," by Lebanon Valley College's Wig and Buckle Theater Company. The event will open Friday, Oct. 23.

Andrew Marvin, of Knowlton Township, was honored with the Julia Fonville Smithson Memorial Prize, awarded annually for excellence in undergraduate writing.
Madeline Kling, of Hackettstown, received the Olive B. Barr Scholarship. Kling is the daughter of Stefan and Deborah Kling and a 2013 graduate of Blair Academy.
Sarah Panik, of North Whitehall Township, is a recipient of the Olive B. Barr Scholarship. Panik is a 2012 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and adaughter of Karen Panik.

Kellie Smigel, of Blairstown, was among the nine incoming students awarded four-year, full-tuition Presidential Scholarships at The University of Scranton. A graduate of North Warren Regional High School, she is a daughter of Chris and Sally Smigel.
