Education Resilience Case Report
Education Resilience Case Report
The World Bank estimates that more than 1 billion people live in states
affected by conflict or instability. Children in these states face a
number of unique challenges, including exposure to violence and trauma,
and a lack of access to safe spaces. To address these issues, many
organizations are implementing programs in fragile and conflict-affected
states to ensure students keep learning despite their circumstances.
Reflective of the growing importance of education innovations in fragile
and conflict-affected states, CEI has identified and profiled close to
50 programs around the world that have implemented creative solutions to
support educational development in such fragile and conflict-affected
states.
About 20 of these programs operate in Sub-Saharan Africa; more
than one-quarter serve populations in South Asia, mostly in Afghanistan;
and another one-fourth focus on communities in East Asia, many of them
along the Thai-Burmese border. This Database at a Glance provides an
overview of the common characteristics of these CEI-profiled programs
that target fragile and conflict-affected states.
